1. INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

The Istanbul Cardiac And Vascular Surgery Research Journal is an open-access academical peer-reviewed medical journal which publishes national, and international articles. The Istanbul Cardiac And Vascular Surgery Research Journal is a triannual journal. It provides free access to the full texts of articles published both in Turkish, and English. Access into its website (www.icvsr.com) is also free of charge

The Istanbul Cardiac And Vascular Surgery Research Journal accepts clinical, and experimental research articles, case reports, concise reports presenting preliminary outcomes of a study, unpublished scientific reports presented in conferences, congresses, and meetings, literature reviews, letters to editors, and announcements of scientific meetings for evaluation. Author (s) is/are responsible for the scientific contents of the articles published in the journal.

2. WRITING RULES

Manuscripts are sent online over Manuscript Submission and Tracking System to the journal website (www.icvsr.com). All manuscripts are reviewed by mainly editor, then associate editors, consultant statistician, and at least three consultant referees (reviewers).

Writing rules of the journal are based on the document Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals - International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.icmje.org). Updated 2008 Turkish version of this document is available online (http://www.ulakbim.gov.tr/cabim/vt/uvt/tip/icmje_08.pdf). Manuscripts not complying with writing rules will not be evaluated. Rejected papers submitted previously to another journal should be sent to our journal with the reports of the former reviewers. Manuscripts accepted for publication are edited in compliance with the arrangement of the journal, writing rules, and style. The layout files of the manuscript are sent via e-mail to the corresponding author for final control, and approval. The corresponding author should return the manuscript within five days. When approval process is completed a DOI number is assigned to the manuscript.

3. PREPARATION OF THE MANUSCRIPTS

1. All manuscripts should be written on a A4 size papers, and 2.5 cm width blank margins should be left from all sides of the paper.

2. References written in the main text should be sorted in compliance with the order of citations used. All of the text including references, tables, and explanatory notes of figures should be written in double-spaced format, justified to the left margin of the paper in 11 point Times New Roman or Arial font type without any hyphen at the end of lines.

3. The above-mentioned font types should be used for the main text, symbols, and other special characteristics.as far as possible.

4. Explanations of the abbreviations should be given at their first appearance in the text, followed by abbreviations in parentheses.

5. Starting from the cover page, all pages should be numbered (1. page, cover page; 2. page, Turkish abstract; 3. page, English abstract). Page numbers should be placed at the top right corner of the page.

6. Manuscripts written in a word processing program, should be recorded in “.doc” or “.rtf” format. Manuscripts written in .“PDF” format will be rejected.

Review articles: In review articles the authors discuss, evaluate, and guide the future studies using national, and international literature concerning updated information or subject which meet a long-awaited need. Turkish, and English summaries without any subsections should contain at most 250 words, and at least 3, and at most 5 key words The main text contains Introduction/headings related to the subject matter/conclusion/recommendations/comments/references. The manuscript should contain at most 5000 words, and 50 references.

Case Reports: They are interesting, and instructive papers which recommend new, and different therapeutic, and diagnostic methods concerning rarely seen cases. They should be supported with adequate number of photos, and graphics. Summary without any subsections should contain at most 250 words, and at least 3, and at most 5 key words. The main text contains sections of Introduction, Case Presentation, Discussion, and References. Case reports should contain at most 700 words, and 10 references.

Editorial Comments: They evaluate comments, and analysis on a manuscript written in the journal. Sentences explaining clinical significance of the cited article, and a brief summary are added to the of the manuscript.
Letters to the Editor: This section contains comments, criticisms, and contributions related to an article previously appeared in The Istanbul Cardiac And Vascular Surgery Research Journal Besides, our readers can write on subjects of their interest. They don’t contain any heading or section. They should contain at most 500 words, and 10 references. Letters to the editor should be sent to the journal within 4 weeks following the date of publication of the relevant article in the journal.

Original Images: They are presented with the aim to demonstrate significant clinical findings, and new treatment modalities. Title, descriptive text, illustrations, and photos, (excl. references) should not exceed 250 words. This text is published a a web page.

Scientific Letter: Preliminary reports with clinical significance aiming to announce new discoveries, innovations and information are accepted for publication as a scientific letter. Scientific letters should contain at most 2-4 illustrations/photos/tables, 900 words, and 10 references.

Research articles:
Research articles should be arranged as follows:
1. Cover page
2. Turkish summary, and key words
3. English summary, and key words
4. Introduction
5. Material, and method
6. Results
7. Discussion, conclusion, recommendations
8. Acknowledgement
9. Conflict of interest
10. Funding sources
11. References
12. Explanatory notes of the figures
13. Tables
14. Figures

Cover Page: Cover page should reflect perfectly the contents of the manuscript. Cover page should not be included in the “Main Text” file, and they should be downloaded to the system as a separate file, otherwise during evaluation process by the reviewers it can create problems, and potential returns to the authors which are waste of time. If the study was presented previously, in a separate line on a cover page, this condition should be explained. Cover page should include the following sections in the indicated order:

1. Title of the manuscript
2. Explicit first names, last names, and academic titles of all authors
3. Workplaces, cities, and countries of all authors
4. The first and the last name, explicit mail address, phone, fax numbers, and e-mail address of the corresponding author.
5. Word counts [incl. cover page, summary, references, explanatory notes on figure(s), and table(s)]

Summary: After title page, on separate pages Turkish, and English summaries of the manuscript consisting of at most 250 words should be written. Below the English summary, do not forget to add the Turkish title of the manuscript. The summary section should be written under following headings:

1. Objective
2. Material and Methods
3. Results
4. Conclusion
5. Key words

At the bottom of the summary page at least 2, and at most 5 key words should be written. The words should be separated from each other with commas (,). The first key word should be capitalized, others should be written in small letters, and in alphabetical order. English key words should be written in compliance with “Medical Subject Headings (MESH)” criteria (see: www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html). Key words in Turkish should be in accordance with Turkish Scientific Terms (TBT) (see: www.bilimterimleri.com).

Introduction: Specific objective of the investigated subject should be written with available data.

Material and Method: Specific explanations about methodology of the study, methods used in summarizing data, testing of the hypothesis, and also basic statistical methods should be written in a brief, and concise format. All manuscripts are subjected to a detailed statistical evaluation. If possible standard statistical methods should be used. When rarely consulted, and novel statistical methods are used references relevant to these methods should be included in this section. Name of the software used for statistical analysis should be indicated. Statistical evaluations, should base on recommendations in the “Statistical Methods” section of “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publication,” document (http://www.ICMJE.org).

Results: Results should be written in a logical order, and detailed in the main text as far as possible. Results should be supported by figures, and tables, and information presented in figures, and tables should not be repeated in the main text unless required. Avoid placing very large tables in the manuscript which will exceed the paper margins of the journal. Discussion: In this section, conclusions derived from the results should be considered, and results should be supported with national, and international references in the light of the only relevant literature. General information irrelevant to the subject matter dealt with, should not be analyzed in detail. In research, and review articles, headings, and sections can be organized as deemed it appropriate by the author (s).

Acknowledgement: Names of the individuals who contributed to the study, but could not meet the criteria of authorship should be provided in this section. Approvals of all individuals mentioned in the “Acknowledgement” section should be obtained, and this section should be loaded in the system as a separate file. It should not be included in the”Full text” file.

Conflict of Interest: Under this heading all potential conflicts of interest, and (if any) competing interests personal liabilities, project support should be declared. If any conflict of interest does not exist then it should be indicated as “not available”. Declaration of conflict of interest should be placed at the end of the page before the “References” page, and immediately after “Acknowledgement” section.

Fund/Funding Sources: Under this heading names of the foundations organizations (if any) which provide any kind of support for the study should be written.

References: References should be sorted in the main text according to their first appearance in the text, and they should be indicated at the end of the sentences and punncuation marks as superscripts. If more than one reference should be used, then each reference should be separated from the successive one with an interposed comma (,). In numbering successive references a hyphen (“-”) should be placed between the first, and the last reference number. If ? 6 authors contributed to the writing of the manuscript, then names of all of them should be indicated. If the number of authors exceeds 6, then in Turkish, and English references after the name of the first author abbreviations of “ve ark.”, and “et al.” should be added. The format used for writing references should comply with rules indicated in Index Medicus (see: www.icmje.org).

Explanations of figures: Explanation of each figure should be given under the heading of “explanatory notes on figures” immediately after the “References” section in the order of their first mention in the main text. All abbreviations, and symbols contained in the figure should be defined explicitly.

Figures: Evaluation process does not start unless all figures related to the manuscript in question are received. Number of figures should be in accordance with the content of the manuscript. Data presented in the text , and tables should not be repetitively placed in figures. All figures should be placed in separate files in electronic formats. The figures should be written in readily printable dimensions. Maximum height, and width of the figures should be 12.5 cm, and 18 cm, respectively. Colored figures should be suitable for print in RGB color format, and at minimum resolution of 300 DPI. Figures in gray scale, and black and white illustrations should be at minimum resolutions of 300 DPI, and 1200 DPI, respectively. All figures should be prepared in TIFF or JPEG formats. None of the images submited should contain any information which will reveal identity of the patient. If identity of the patient can be guessed from the figure sent, written permission should be obtained from the patient, and annexed as an attachment.

Tables: Each table should be written double-spaced on separate pages. Tables should be numbered according to their first appearance in the text. Number, and title of the table should be written on top of the table. Vertical lines should not be drawn between columns of the tables. Only horizontal lines should be drawn under, and above the title of the table, and at the bottom of the table. In case of need, an explanatory note can be written below the table. Explanations of all abbreviations used in the table should be written in alphabetical order. If data included in the table are acquired from a different published source, then necessary permissions should be obtained.

4. ETHICS

In cases of abuse or violation of the ethical principles of scientific publication The Istanbul Cardiac And Vascular Surgery Research Journal based its decisions on algorithms of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (see www.publicationethics.org.). Besides during the evaluation process all manuscripts submitted are scanned with plagiarism detection software, iThenticate) against deliberate overlappings or similarities with texts of other manuscripts.

In studies performed on human beings, the authors should indicate in their application forms acquisition of undersigned Informed Consent Forms from the participants, and send approval documents to the journal they obtained from the relevant Institutional Ethics Committee or its equivalent enclosed with their manuscript. In case presentations, a document demonstrating that the indicated patient was priorly informed that his/her demographic data will be used for publication elsewhere should be also submitted.

Studies on human, and animal subjects should be conducted in compliance with current national, and international regulations, and approval of the ethics committee should be obtained, and indicated accordingly. In studies which approval of the Ethics Committee should be obtained, the manuscript will not be published if required document of approval is not sent to the journal. Besides in all studies, principles specified in “Helsinki Declaration”, “Good Clinical Practices”, and “Good Laboratory Practices” should be obeyed, and written, and verbal informed approvals should be obtained from the patients.

5. AUTHORSHIP

All authors of the submitted manuscript should contribute adequately to the study, and meet authorship criteria. They should take responsibility of the part contributed by themselves. More detailed information about the authorship can be found in web pages of ICMJE.

6. COVER LETTER

Each manuscript should be submitted with a cover letter. Cover letter should contain the following items indicating that:

1. All authors have met the criteria of authorship.
2. The submitted manuscript has not been sent concurrently to another journal for publication or it is not currently evaluated by the editorial board of another journal.
3. Content of the manuscript has not been published previously.
4. The manuscript has been read, and approved by all authors.

First, and last name,open postal address, phone, and fax number, e-mail address of the corresponding author who is responsible for all communications with the editorial board should be indicated in this section. In this section, significance of the submitted manuscript can be emphasized briefly.

7. SUBMISSION OF THE MANUSCRIPTS

The manuscripts will be accepted if delivered online. While the manuscript is loaded online in Manuscript Collection and Evaluation System (https://www.journalagent.com/icvsr/), the Manuscript, and its summary info, Information about the Institute, Author(s), Corresponding, and Responsible Author, Title of the Manuscript, Turkish and English Summaries, and Key Words of the Manuscript, Letters to the Editor, File of the Manuscript (Full Text-References-Table-Figure(s)-ýllustration(s)-Graphics-Note to the Editor ) are downloaded in the system separately, and step by step. Summary, and full text should not contain information about the author(s) and institute related to the study.

Digital files should be downloaded in the following order:.
• File of the manuscript (full text) should be named with its title written in capitalized letters. The manuscript should contain the following sections: “Full, and Running Title both in Turkish, and English”, “Introduction”, “Material and Method”, “Results”, “Discussion”, “Acknowledgement (if available)-Conflict of Interest”. Each section should be presented at separate pages. Headings of each section should be written in capital letters and at the left side of the top of the page. All pages should be numbered successively, and page numbers should be written at the right lower corner of the page.

• File of references should be written on separate pages.

• Each table should be written double-spaced on separate papers, and number, and title of each table should be written on top of the table. If table contained abbreviations, then. explanations of abbreviations should be written below the tables in alphabetical order. If previously printed or electronically published tables are to be used, then written permission from both their authors, and publishers should be obtained, and this document should be sent to the editor-in-chief of the journal.

• Legends of the figure, graphics, illustrations, and photos should be written double-spaced on a separate page. They should be numbered according to the order of their first appearance in the text. If table(s), graphics, and figure(s) contained abbreviations, then. their explanations should be written in alphabetical order below the subtitles. If previously printed or electronically published figures, graphics, illustrations, and photos are to be used, then written permission from their authors, and publishers should be obtained, and the relevant document should be sent to the editor of the journal.

8. EVALUATION OF THE MANUSCRIPTS

For the publication of the manuscripts in the The Istanbul Cardiac And Vascular Surgery Research Journal, they should not be published or accepted for publication in another journal, Editorial Board of The Journal should deemed them suitable for publication Authors are responsible for the scientific contents of the manuscript. All authors should approve the publication of the submitted manuscript by undersigning “The Istanbul Cardiac And Vascular Surgery Research Journal (ICVSR) consent form”.

Manuscripts sent to the journal for evaluation can be written in Turkish or English. Turkish medical manuscripts to be sent for the evaluation should comply with the spelling guidelines set by Turkish Language Institute, and foreign words commonly used in our language should be written in compliance with our spelling rules.

All submitted papers are priorly evaluated by the Editorial Board of The Istanbul Cardiac And Vascular Surgery Research Journal Some papers not deemed to be suitable for publication in the journal by the editorial board, and some manuscripts which did not meet the requirements of writing rules or those with inadequate scientific content are returned to the authors. Papers found suitable for consideration by the editorial board are sent to the reviewers for detailed evaluation. Acceptance of the manuscripts for publication depends on many factors including originality, and scientific content of the manuscript, subject of the study, and balanced organization of the relevant publications in the journal. Decision about the publication of the manuscript is generally communicated to the authors within 6 weeks via e-mail.

9. PUBLICATION FEE

The Istanbul Cardiac And Vascular Surgery Research Journal is an open-access journal. Its contents are available online from its website. For publications, the authors are not obliged to pay any sum.
